On January 28, 2025, a post on X by Libs of TikTok featured a video of Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez expressing her outrage towards a witness. She accused the social media account of orchestrating a targeted harassment campaign against hospitals that perform transgender surgeries on minors, extending her allegations to the Republican Party as a whole.
“Are you familiar with the Libs of TikTok accounts? … Are you aware that between August 11 and August 16, that account disseminated false information about Boston Children’s Hospital, alleging that they were conducting hysterectomies on children?” Cortez exclaimed. “And do you know that this misinformation was subsequently propagated by other prominent far-right figures?”
“Furthermore, are you aware that all these claims, which I have reiterated as false, resulted in real-life harassment and even a bomb threat directed at Boston Children’s Hospital?” she continued. “And this account remains active on that platform today, doesn’t it? … despite inciting a bomb threat due to right-wing instigation of violence against transgender individuals in this country.” She emphasized, “This obsession with promoting violence against transgender and LGBTQ individuals, as well as immigrants and women of color, reflects a party that cannot confront anyone of equal stature.” Many Democrats, including AOC, have reacted strongly to Trump’s recent executive order concerning gender ideology.
The White House remarked, “Across the nation, ideologues who reject the biological reality of sex have increasingly employed legal and socially coercive tactics to allow men to self-identify as women, thereby gaining access to intimate single-sex spaces and activities meant for women, including domestic abuse shelters and workplace showers.”
“This is unacceptable. Efforts to eliminate the biological reality of sex fundamentally undermine women by stripping them of their dignity, safety, and well-being. The erasure of sex in language and policy has a damaging impact.”The document further stated, “Disregarding the authentic and biological definition of ‘woman’ misappropriates laws and policies intended to safeguard sex-specific opportunities, transforming them into regulations that actually weaken those protections. This shift replaces established and valued legal rights with a vague, identity-focused social construct.”
“In light of this, my Administration will uphold women’s rights and safeguard freedom of conscience by employing precise and truthful language and policies that affirm women as biologically female and men as biologically male,” they concluded. While Trump’s executive order was generally well-received, it faced criticism from some Democrats, including AOC.
