UN Security Council to Hold Emergency Meeting on Cambodia-Thailand Border Clashes

The United Nations Security Council will convene an emergency meeting on Friday to address the deadly border clashes between Cambodia and Thailand, diplomatic sources confirmed to Agence France-Presse (AFP).

The meeting, scheduled for 3:00 pm (1900 GMT), will be held behind closed doors at the UN headquarters in New York. It was called in response to an urgent request from Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet, who on Wednesday appealed to the international community to intervene following a series of escalating military confrontations between the two Southeast Asian neighbors.

The clashes, which erupted earlier this week along disputed areas near the northern Cambodian provinces of Preah Vihear and Oddar Meanchey, have resulted in multiple casualties and the displacement of hundreds of civilians. Cambodian officials have accused Thailand of launching unprovoked attacks using heavy weaponry, including airstrikes.
