Tiger Woods recently spent time playing golf with former President Donald Trump in South Florida as he prepares for his highly anticipated return to the PGA Tour.
The White House has confirmed multiple reports indicating that Woods and Trump played a round on Sunday morning at Trump International Golf Club in West Palm Beach. Following this outing, Woods is set to participate in his first official PGA Tour event since The Open at Torrey Pines in just a few days.
Later today, Trump is expected to enhance his schedule by attending the Super Bowl in New Orleans.
Woods, who has achieved eight victories at Torrey Pines throughout his career, including the memorable 2008 U.S. Open, will head to San Diego for the Genesis Invitational the following week. This tournament was relocated from its original venue at the Riviera Country Club in Los Angeles to Torrey’s South Course due to the recent Palisades fire. Since the Masters in April of last year, Woods has not completed a 72-hole tournament.
The golf icon’s name has also surfaced in discussions regarding the ongoing negotiations between the Saudi Public Investment Fund and the PGA Tour. Last week, Trump met with player director Adam Scott and PGA Tour Commissioner Jay Monahan in Washington, D.C., to discuss the future of professional golf. Although Woods was not mentioned in the Tour’s official statement, flight-tracking data indicates that his private jet arrived at Dulles Airport on Monday night before departing for Florida early the next morning.
In a subsequent statement, the PGA Tour expressed gratitude to Trump for his role in advancing the negotiations toward a resolution. The statement noted, “We appreciate that [Trump’s] leadership has brought us closer to a final agreement, paving the way for men’s professional golf to reunite.”
Amidst his busy schedule, Woods also shared some personal news on Tuesday, announcing the passing of his mother, Kultida Woods, at the age of 80.In a poignant tribute, Woods expressed, “My mother was an extraordinary force; her spirit was undeniably powerful.” She worked swiftly with the needle, and without her support, none of my achievements would have been attainable. She was my greatest advocate and supporter.
On social media, Woods’ longtime friend Trump extended his sympathies.
“I was saddened to hear of the passing of Kultida, Tiger Woods’ great-grandmother—she has moved on to greener fairways!” Trump remarked. Kultida Woods had a significant impact on Tiger, imparting much of his strength and wisdom. Melania and I send our prayers and love to Tiger and his wonderful family.
Trump and Woods have shared numerous rounds of golf, showcasing their strong friendship. In recognition of Woods’ remarkable contributions to golf, Trump awarded him the Presidential Medal of Freedom in 2019.
